I originally purchased half-life waaaaaaaaaay back in December of 1998. I actually played through most of the single player, a little multi both regular and TFC, but NEVER CounterStrike View image: /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Anyway, it's been uninstalled for well over a year and a half. Since that time, I've been relocated and basically lost (most likely threw away) the CD case w/the key.

Well along comes DMC and I'm eager to try it. So I reinstall Half-Life, download some 50+MB patch to the latest version and the DMC mod.

As you may have guessed, I can't play w/out a valid CD-key. What do you think would be the best way to regain a valid CD-key? I've thought of calling Sierra, but my hunch is that they get these calls all the time and I've really no way of validating my original purchase from 2.5 years ago.

I've been able to locate a key generator which will allow me to play lan games and single player, but never online.

Open to all suggestions. I'm even open to perhaps buying another copy, but it looks as though only the 'Platinum' edition is out. I really don't want to pay $50+ just for a cd-key. I looked for a used one at the local Electronics Boutique, but to no avail.

Half Life 1 Cd Key

I just bought HL2 used from an Amazon seller. It has the original box, ref. card and 5 cds. The only problem is it doesn't include a cd key anywhere. I found this out after installing it and trying to activate it on STEAM. I than read the seller's disclaimer, a little late unfortunately, which gives no guarantee on legitimate cd key being included with any of the games he sells. I don't think that is right or legal but it's too late for that now, buyer beware and all that. The question is: is this key stored somewhere on my computer during the install process? Or would STEAM give me a legit. key, highly doubtful? Or am I just s**t out of luck and out of the purchase price, which fortunately was under 10 bucks?
